We are proud to spotlight our men’s program for residents and Army veterans like James G. The inspiring “Made with Love” Project is part of our memory care program at The Gardens of Castle Hills in San Antonio, TX.
Nicknamed “Jim,” Mr. G. brings a wealth of life experiences to our assisted living and memory care community. His passion for woodwork has become central to the men’s program activities. At home, he often crafted cabinets and tables. His hobbies also include football, fishing, traveling, and camping. He has been to Germany and traveled most of the United States.
Memory care residents like Mr. G. channel their creativity into the “Made with Love” Project. During their senior woodworking sessions, they make:
- Building blocks
- Serving trays
- Small jewelry boxes
These handcrafted items are then generously donated to daycares and charities, spreading joy to those less fortunate. Woodworking for seniors is a therapeutic and fulfilling experience.
The “Made with Love” Project is a crafting initiative to engage in a creative activity together. It allows the men here to reminisce about their past adventures in the military, favorite hobbies, and family vacations.
Other activities include discussions about different topics like fishing. Memory Care Director Alma Munoz brings lures and fishing poles that spark memories for residents. The group shares laughter-filled tales of the “‘one that got away.” For those with a background in aviation or automotive work, mechanic tools and pictures also provide a trip down memory lane.
“We believe in creating an environment where our residents can not only receive exceptional care but also continue to lead fulfilling lives,” says Alma. “The ‘Made with Love’ Project is a tribute to our residents’ diverse experiences and a way for them to reminisce, connect, and even give back to the community.” Creative pursuits like woodworking for seniors offer immense benefits.
Sunday afternoons at our community are dedicated to football socials, fostering a sense of community and shared passion for the game. Residents gather to cheer on their favorite teams, creating cherished moments and reinforcing the bonds that make The Gardens of Castle Hills a unique and vibrant senior living community.
