One team member who tirelessly carries out that mission every day is Memory Care Program Director, Alma R. Munoz.

Alma joined the team in April 2021 and has over 15 years of experience working with seniors. Her background includes developing exciting and purposeful activities to better assist those living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

The Gardens of Castle Hills does that through activities that encourage independence, socialization and developing friendships with other residents such as gardening, quilting, baking, and social, spiritual, educational, and entertaining activities.

“Engaging seniors in this way also helps to prevent sundowning and can provide redirection when they are agitated or confused,” Alma explains.

Alma feels that a memory care program is there to help seniors on their journey and validate their feelings. One of her fondest memories happened while working with a resident who had lost her vision. While making crafts to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Walk, the resident began talking about her hometown and how she missed sitting on the front porch with her husband by her side to watch the sunrise.

When I shared with her family members what kind of day their mom had, I showed them the beautiful painting she made. They were speechless and surprised that she could paint! It was such a wonderful and rewarding feeling.”

Alma believes that the best part of her work is being able to bring out the best in someone’s loved one. She enjoys connecting families through fun activities and creating opportunities for memorable moments.

“Alma is such an asset to our team,” shares Owner and Operator, Suzanne Denny. She is incredibly well-versed in dementia care and our residents and families love her. She’s adept at providing resources, support, education, and above all, connecting with residents and families. We are so proud to have her.”
